Christening rugs stand for a new Christian etiquette. Spread on the floor during the christening,
the rug separates the child and godparents from the other guests. After the ceremony, the rug is
hung on the wall as a souvenir of the event, forming part of the décor of the home or public facility.
The names and birthdates of the people christened on it can be embroidered onto the rug’s backing fabric.
AnnaQ’s christening rugs have been designed on the basis of texts by Professor Jouko Martikainen which
express the Christian message of baptism. The buyer of a completed christening rug receives a summary of
the texts which provided the inspiration for the design of the rug along with the order.
A christening rug is a fine textile for public facilities and private homes alike. When made by a
grandmother or godparent, its sentimental value becomes even greater.
The woollen wall coverings are made with a cotton warp. All the wall rugs are also available in
do-it-yourself weaving and sewing kits.
